IMPORTANCIA DEL LISTENING EN EL APRENDIZAJE DE INGLÉS / IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING IN LEARNING ENGLISH

Si nos detenemos un poco y nos ponemos a pensar, aprender la gramática para poder comunicarnos es completamente innatural.

 ¿Acaso así aprendimos español?

Seguro ustedes no saben cuando usamos el pretérito indefinido o el pretérito imperfecto y mucho menos los tediosos subjuntivos no obstante los usamos día a día de manera muy natural. Entonces podemos ver que el estudio de un lenguaje en el aula toma un camino estratégico y planeado para que uno llegue a comunicarse efectivamente.

Quizás entonces se pregunte, ¿Por qué estudiamos la gramática?

Es necesario tener una estrategia que nos permita, de una manera ordenada, pedagógica, y con objetivos claros, aprender un idioma en un tiempo considerablemente corto. Para ello existe herramientas necesarias que nos permiten llevar a cabo tal misión. Por supuesto lo más natural sería una total inmersión del idioma.

Esto es, irnos a vivir a Londres o USA y aprenderlo naturalmente  a una temprana edad. Esto para muchos es difícil o imposible.

La manera natural de iniciarse en el aprendizaje de cualquier idioma es el "listening". Recuerden como aprendimos Español. Le compraron un libro y comenzaron a enseñarles reglas gramaticales en la cuna, ¿cierto? No!!!

Nosotros empezamos escuchando a nuestros padres como nos hablaban. Escuchabamos día tras día y aprendiamos padrones en contexto para después poco a poco reproducirlos y transformar el "listening" en "speaking".

Para poder empezar a hablar fluidamente en inglés es necesario practicar el “listening”. Pero parece ser que los alumnos no ven esta conexión y que los mismos profesores fallan en hacérselos saber. ¿Cuando tienen un examen que hacen? Leen reglas, memorizan vocabulario, hacen ejercicios con el objetivo corto de pasar un examen, pero, ¿cuál es el objetivo principal? ¿Acaso no es el comunicarnos de manera natural y fluida en inglés?

El pasar exámenes muestra nuestra comprensión de las estructuras pero no es la meta final. Es una forma de evaluar el progreso pero tienen que recordar que este no es el fin. Es por esto que muchos alumnos de niveles avanzados no hablan inglés. Lo que hacen es responder preguntas o conversar en algo que parece una entrevista.

When they do have a test? Leen rules, memorize vocabulary, make short exercises in order to pass a test, but what is the main objective? Is not it the natural way and communicate fluently in English?

Passing tests shows our understanding of the structures but not the ultimate goal. It is a way to assess progress but have to remember that this is not the end. That is why many students do not speak English at advanced levels. What they do is answer questions or talk about something that seems an interview.
